Lawyers for Britney Spears and Jamie Spears are in talks to end their contentious legal battle … sources with direct knowledge on both sides tell TMZ.

Our sources tell TMZ … Britney’s attorney, Mathew Rosengart, has reached out to both Jamie’s lawyer and lawyers for Tri Star Sports & Entertainment Group to settle up. As you know, Rosengart has accused both Jamie and Tri Star of misappropriating massive amounts of money from Britney … an allegation they have strongly denied.

Our sources say a few months after the conservatorship ended last November, lawyers for Jamie and Tri Star approached Rosengart to settle their differences, but Britney’s lawyer was having none of it and was going full steam ahead.

We are told that Rosengart had a sudden change of heart about a month ago, and offered to end the legal battle for a price of around $7 million. Sources tell us that Jamie and Tri Star lawyers wanted to know how Rosengart reached that figure. However, they claim Rosengart refused to provide any details, so there was an impasse.

Our sources tell us that both sides are open to settlement. A source with direct knowledge of the matter tells TMZ that Rosengart reached out to Tri Star to discuss a possible settlement.

This is not to imply that everyone is on the same page. Sources with direct knowledge about Jamie and Tri Star tell TMZ… Rosengart “scrambling to settle” the case. However, TMZ was informed by a source inside Britney’s camp that Rosengart is not “scrambling” to settle the case. General settlement talks are simply a standard operating procedure in any legal dispute.

The question is, of course, how much Jamie and/or Tri Star are willing to pay and how much Britney will accept to end this legal war.
